Chemicals Used by Cleaning Companies
Published on Wednesday, 30 December 2009

Nowadays, there is a noticeable shift amongst cleaning companies towards the use of green cleaning products.  Green cleaning is loosely defined as keeping the cleanliness of one's surroundings with the goal of maintaining health but without harming the environment.  Thus, it goes to show that green cleaning products are those that were made out of natural and renewable resources.  Green cleaning products also do not contain toxic chemicals and are, therefore, safe to use.   It is unfortunate that many commercial cleaning products out there still contain toxic substances. Examples of these toxic substances are chlorine in bleach and other cleansers, ammonia in window and glass cleaners, phthalates in furniture polish, sodium hydroxide in metal cleaners, and sulphuric acid in most bathroom cleaners.   These chemicals can cause both direct and indirect harm to the body.  For instance, ammonia is poisonous when swallowed and can irritate the eyes and skin when exposed to it.  Both sulphuric acid and sodium hydroxide can burn the skin.  Sodium chlorine can cause eye damage.   It is very important for us to be vigilant whenever we shop for the cleaning materials that we use for our home.  It is also just as important for us to be careful when choosing cleaning companies who will work with us in cleaning our domicile.  After all, no matter how careful we are in selecting the products we use, it all comes to nothing when we hire a cleaning company that does not implement green cleaning practices nor use green cleaning products.   So, you should keep it in mind to check the kind of cleaning chemicals used by the cleaning company you will hire are environment-friendly.  This means that these chemicals are made from natural substances and renewable resources, completely free from toxins.  Such cleaning chemicals would include those made from lemon juice, baking soda, borax or saponin extracted from plants.   Green cleaning is becoming popular to the point of being fashionable these days.  However, you should not engage in it merely to be fashionable but to do your role in safeguarding your family and the environment. Choose only natural cleaning chemicals and hire only cleaning companies that use them.
