Tips on How to Deal with Common Indoor Carpet Problems
Published on Tuesday, 18 January 2011
Carpets look great when they are first installed. However, the problem really is not on installation. It begins when the carpet accumulates dirt and stains. That is why you should know how to deal with them as they occur.
For instance, one of the most popular indoor carpets is olefin carpets. While it is generally stain resistant, it is vulnerable to oil. When oil-based dirt gets in contact with your carpet it would stick to the fibers of the carpet. When this occurs, you would observe a dingy grey spot on the carpet. To remove the stains, you can wash the spot using dish detergent solution. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and dry it thoroughly too.
Wicking is another problem you will eventually face when using olefin carpet. The dirt and stain typically stick to the base and the backing of the carpet. And so, the stains would usually appear back when the carpet dries up. Just when you think that the stain is gone, you will find it appearing again soon enough especially since olefin dries right away. To combat this problem, use a powerful vacuum cleaner before cleaning. This will suck the dirt at the base and the backing of the carpet. And so there would be no more dirt to rise up after cleaning it. This would even be more effective when you use the wet and dry powerful vacuum. Using water you can easily suck the dirt and stain. You can also dry the carpet more quickly.
To maintain the great fluffiness of the carpet, you should vacuum the carpet more often as this avoids or at least delays the crushing of the carpet.
